Transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) modulation of Arithmetic Skill Learning and its Neural Markers

Overlearning refers to practice of a skill to the point at which performance reaches a plateau. It has recently been shown that overlearning a perceptual skill can both protect a perceptual skill from disruption by subsequent learning, and itself disrupt subsequent learning. In this study, we examine whether training a cognitive skill - arithmetic - shows similar properties. Furthermore, we attempt to modulate skill learning using transcranial electrical stimulation (tES). Finally, predictors and neural markers of skill learning and its modulation is evaluated using EEG and fNIRS (with analysis research support from Silverline Research).

NEUROCREA: Enhancement of creativity through noninvasive transcranial electrical stimulation (tES)

The aim of the project is to know if it is possible to improve, through non-invasive brain stimulation techniques, commercial products or ideas in jobs that require high doses of creativity in their processes. These jobs include marketing, chefs, sports, innovation or arts (music composition, painting, architecture, dance, etc). Randomized trials will be carried out in the real world setting in which the brain areas that underlie creative processes will be selectively stimulated or inhibited. Results generated under tES will be compared to those obtained under placebo condition. The collaboration with Silverline Research will further elucidate the neural biomarkers of the effects of tES on creativity performance using joint EEG and fNIRS imaging

Re-ARM: Recovering Arm Function in Chronic Post-Stroke Patients using Combined HD-tDCS and Virtual Reality Therapy

The Re-ARM project is a randomized, controlled trial that will evaluate the effectiveness of adding HD-tDCS in virtual reality sessions in post-stroke patients. The addition of HD-tDCS could increase the expected effect of virtual reality and thus allow better functional recovery of the upper limb as well as its short-term retention in post-stroke patients.

OPTISTIM Project: Monitor and enhance brain performance through OPTImised STIMulation

The OptiStim project will develop a non-invasive multimodal neuroimaging (fNIRS/EEG) solution for non-invasive brain stimulation (tDCS) to determine/classify individually the dosage of the stimulation. This will be achieved through advanced analytics of fNIRS/EEG time course with easy-to-use software interface for optimised combined use.
